For this lake house we needed to transform and add some creative details to this basic L-shaped kitchen. After seeing the inspiration photos from the clients, they really wanted a statement piece.... the Hood wall! The existing floor plan wouldn't allow the island size they desired and the hood crowded the window location... Bingo! move the sharing laundry wall back and increase the kitchen square footage. I repositioned the range wall and pushed it back 2 feet which made a great deal of added inches to our design. I included several architectural elements such as crown molding, several trims, an arched decorative valance at the sink window, created interest at the door w/ a taller transom detail , selected a beautiful porcelain white farm sink , created a coffee station left of the refrigerator , lattice wine rack , designed furniture-hutch into the layout, embellished the island with decorative legs and trim, open display cabinet and finally the mantel hood that was top on their wish list.

The cabinet door style was a detail that was quickly selected as well as the white subway tile. I added a twist with a herringbone detail under the hood with a border trim ~ tone on tone but showcasing that cottages vibe. After we locked in the cabinet layout with moving the wall, the next challenge was the cabinet paint color. We walked around the idea having an all white or blue kitchen and even thought white on the perimeter with an accent color for the island. It just didn't feel right yet . The colors were eliminated one by one until we narrowed it down ~ the light green paint was our final outcome! It added so much character and quaint charm itself to the space - it's so perfect! We paired it with honed Carrara Marble for the perfect selection.

The hub of this space is definitely the island. It is the center zone for the family and is a multi purpose space; sit for a quick lunch snack, making cookies with the grandkids, buffet for picnics and the perfect landing space for meal prep. Seeing this kitchen all completed with the chrome hardware and personal items placed perfectly, made me speechless! Immediately I said we need to shoot this and submit this to a magazine, The clients questioned my intent but only for a brief second, we had the photographer shoot prelims and before we knew it - Better Homes and Gardens called to schedule a photo shoot! We were ecstatic and beyond grateful. We were all over the moon when we heard they wanted to feature it on the summer cover! They loved the light green too .

This cottage was built with so much love and joy! It truly is their peaceful sanctuary. Indeed, there is no place like home especially at their lake house in northern Michigan.  Truly blessed to have worked with this amazing family!
